The Biomedical Engineering Research Instrumentation Center (BERIC) houses several suites of instruments in the Science and Technology Center and the Tsuming Tu Complex on the Tufts University Medford campus. These include mechanical testing instruments – rheometer, dynamic mechanical analysis, Instron, and nanoindenter, equipment for imaging and optical properties evaluation – profilometer, scanning electron microscope, fluorescent microscope, ellipsometer, plate reader, and an in vivo small-animal imaging system located in the vivarium facility, histology equipment – microtome, cryostat, tissue processor, and embedding and staining equipment and supplies, and materials processing equipment – resin 3D printers, filament 3D printers, laser cutter, sputter coater, and ethylene oxide sterilizer. These facilities are available for both assisted and unassisted use. Clients may operate the equipment independently after completing the required training. Assisted use includes initial trainings, refreshers, or requests for technical assistance from BERIC staff.
